The Alfie Boe James Huish Academy of Theatre Arts is testament to the power and potential of artistic and educational innovation which emerges at the intersection between creativity and camaraderie. James Huish and Alfie Boe joined forces to craft a unique theatre academy from the ground up, crafting a bespoke training program which boasts the very best teaching staff in Northern Ireland alongside an array of passionate performing arts practitioners and professionals from the UK and USA who, like Alfie Boe himself, have made a name for themselves from the West End to Broadway.

 

The Alfie Boe James Huish Academy of Theatre Arts offer access to exciting productions with educational opportunities embedded in each process as well as group programs and one-to-one sessions across a range of different disciplines that generate a thriving theatre industry... and we are thrilled to announce them as international members of our Collab Collective ensemble! With an artistic and educational ethos which aligns with our 21st century approach to theatre, The Alfie Boe James Huish Academy of Theatre Arts and Collab Company are collaborating across many platforms to build up and bolster a creative community on an international stage.

Les Misérables with Huish Boe

The Alfie Boe James Huish Academy of Theatre Arts workshop series is open to UAE school groups from Year 7 to 13 as well as individual teenage and adult amateur,  semi-professional or professional performers. The intensive will delve into the emotional and physical intricacies of character portrayal in Les Misérables as well as the performance process from start to finish. Led by seasoned directors James Huish and Sam Hiller, participants will explore the themes of pain, cold, and hunger that shape the identities and struggles of each character. The workshop will culminate in a condensed performance of selected excerpts from the show, showcasing the students' developed skills in acting through song with full physicality.

OBJECTIVES

  • Enhance understanding of character struggles and desires in Les Misérables.

  • Provide techniques for character research into motivations (Jean Valjean, Javert, Fantine, Éponine)

  • Develop physicality reflecting the effects of pain, cold, and hunger on the body.

  • Cultivate the ability to act through song, integrating voice and physical expression.

  • Receive feedback on performance with improvement strategies and implementation support.

  • Gain insights into professional directing techniques from industry leaders.

  • Bespoke Q&A on next steps, the audition process and how to succeed in musical theatre.
