DEVELOPING OUR DATABASE

Collab Company is building a database to support artists, arts educators, performers, journalists and creatives across multiple associated industries. The eventual aim is for us to advance the arts for ourselves and others by providing access to the arts through our evolving local and international network of doers and dreamers! If that sounds like you, let us know below...

THE POLITICS OF (MULTIPLE) IDENTITIES...

The local and international ensemble of Collab Company currently creates, educates and produces across four continents. Our dream is to eventually have our brand and all its associated artistry present in multiple venues around the globe, supporting the immediate creative communities of each venue whilst also supporting the building of corridors of culture using our collaborative and holistic methodology to do so. We know that performers, artists, producers, educators and creatives working across multiple creative industries will often need take on multiple identities. Part of our work is to understand the impact of this on those we work with in the UAE so that our mission to advance the arts is achievable locally and eventually internationally across all three prongs of our company: Collab Creations, Collab Classroom and Collab Collective.

How do I identify?

OUR WAY OF WORKING...

As a company that purposefully harnesses a synergy across all three prongs of our organisation, Collab Company is always in discussions around how development in one area might support the development of another within our ways of working. We are acutely aware that the boundaries that exist between professional and amateur performing arts and arts education within this region are often blurred, and as a company which offers multigenerational opportunities for training and tutoring, accredited courses, networking, community theatre as well as professional gigs and productions, this will require a strong stance on how we choose to engage with professionals, amateurs, trained and training members of our local and international creative communities. As such, we have opted to activate a clause for any auditions or recruitment practices involving professional, paid opportunities which are produced by or directly associated with Collab Company. At its core, this clause will prevent any individual who has not engaged with Collab Company in a community-centric capacity (participating in pop-ups, programs or productions) within the previous summer or winter seasons from accessing professional, paid opportunities. This ensures that even within our professional space, whether locally or internationally, we are engaging in our cyclical collaborative structure which ensures that we do not simply recruit or audition professionals over amateurs, locals over internationals in a practice which we believe impedes the our core belief in individual access to and advancement of the arts. This is something which underpins our entire ethos. For more information on how this will work, please pay attention to our social spaces or reach out to Lauren Noble directly.
